Ed Hopkins is a cybersecurity consulting leader who specialises in providing high-impact assessments and incident response support to large organisations, ranging from strategic advice to deeply technical engagements. He assists clients across a range of industries, including financial services, critical infrastructure, healthcare, education and government.
At FTI Consulting, Ed drives engagements that assess the cybersecurity posture and functions of organisations using a broad array of methodologies, including cybersecurity program reviews, maturity assessments, penetration testing and red teaming exercises. He has extensive experience in advising organisations on uplifting their capabilities and implementing security controls across their people, processes, and technology in order to achieve maximum risk reduction.
Ed also assists with complex incident response (IR) engagements, including network intrusions, ransomware attacks and major data breaches. During these engagements, he advises on containment and eradication actions, conducts post-incident forensic investigations, and provides recommendations to strengthen failed controls. He has also negotiated with ransomware threat actors, achieving successful outcomes for the victim organisations.
Prior to joining FTI Consulting, Ed worked for a Big Four professional services firm, leading small teams of cybersecurity consultants to deliver high impact technical assessments, including application and network penetration testing, red teaming, vulnerability assessments, social engineering exercises, security configuration reviews, security architecture reviews, and operational technology (OT) security assessments.
Ed holds a number of technical cybersecurity certifications, including OSCP, OSEP, OSWP, CRTP, and CARTP. He also holds a Bachelor of Information Systems (Co-op) (Honours) from the University of New South Wales.
