
Ishan Karunanayake is a computer science professional with over eight years of experience in cybersecurity, data science, and software engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia, where his research focused on encrypted traffic classification in anonymity networks. His work spans network security, malware analysis, and the use of machine learning in cybersecurity, with multiple publications and over 200 citations. In 2023, he was recognised among the Top 100 Future Leaders by the Australian Financial Review.
Currently, Ishan works as a Consultant in Identity and Access Management, supporting clients including a major Australian bank. He has also contributed to cybersecurity startups, integrating GenAI into SaaS platforms in the Cyber GRC space. His earlier roles include software engineering in enterprise travel tech and academic teaching at UNSW, where he delivered lectures and tutorials in network security.
Ishan is actively involved in the professional community through IEEE, AISA, ACS, and ACM. He has served in leadership roles, including Local Arrangements Chair for SIGCOMM 2024, and has presented at conferences both in Australia and internationally. He also holds a Bachelor's degree in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.
