Dr Matthew Ryan is an Australian cybersecurity researcher with a focus on enterprise cybersecurity, strategic risk management, and organisational resilience. He currently serves as the Head of Cybersecurity and Data Risk at the National Australia Bank and has previously held senior cybersecurity and consulting roles with Macquarie Group, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, CBA, Deloitte, and the Australian Defence Forces.
In parallel with his industry leadership, Dr Ryan is a cybersecurity researcher and Industry Fellow at the UNSW School of Business. He is the author of Ransomware Revolution: The Rise of a Prodigious Cyber Threat. My current research explores the intersection of technology, enterprise cybersecurity, operational resilience, and applied economics. Dr Ryan holds a Doctorate in Cybersecurity from the University of New South Wales, alongside four additional degrees spanning counter-terrorism, strategy, security, and diplomacy.
